What an action is

An action is one skill row in the rally. Every rally has exactly one serve. The other skills are counted each time they appear.

ServeThe serve that opens the rally.
ReceptionThe receive of the serve.
SetThe set, the pass to an attacker.
AttackAn attack hit.
BlockA block contact.
DigA defensive dig.
FreeballA free ball played over the net.

The sum of rally times is the recorded ball-in-play time. It is the clock in the file, not the time from the whistle to the end of the set. Sets 1 to 4 are played to 25. Set 5 is played to 15, so it has fewer rallies. The men’s VNL 2025 final eight has no fifth set.
